Managing Partners and Suppliers

business growth management Oct 10, 2019

Most of us can't do everything ourselves... so it makes sense to engage other professionals (at times) to help look after our clients.

But how do you make sure that they don't STEAL your hard won client???

When you set up and manage these relationships well, they can be hugely beneficial for both partners AND for your clients. Just remember, you're referring the client - so you set the rules.

Work Life Balance

Work-Life Balance - is a load of bollocks!

I hate the way this phrase is lauded over people and used to make people feel guilty...and in the next breath, I'm a MASSIVE believer that we work to live, NOT live to work!

So how do I manage these seemingly contradictory beliefs?
It's simple... I cheated! I've re-defined what 'Work-Life Balance' looks like :-)

In this video I explain exactly what I mean by that...

Dealing With Staff Mistakes

How you choose to respond to and deal with mistakes made by your team will have a huge impact on the culture you create, how your business grows, and how much your team wants to support you.

Mistakes can be difficult to swallow - especially when they cost you money.

So, When you make a mistake - how do you react? Usually, we know our intentions were good and it was an honest mistake... so we apologise and then just get on with fixing it But when our team makes mistakes - how do we react to them? (especially given these are out of our control and often cost us directly)

Today let's discuss allowing the same grace we afford ourselves, to our staff.

Slow Down to Speed Up

The paradox of slowing down, to speed up.

When you think you are ready to move your focus from the revenue blocks to the control blocks (see my How to Grow Your Business Video if that doesn't make sense) and hand over more responsibilities to your team, make sure that your systems and processes are developed, and your instructions are clear, detailed and in place - first!

If we try to scale-up on a rocky foundation, we're just going to get a bigger mess. Slow down, put systems in place, and 'grow' into Level 6 'Managing Managers'. You can't just jump ahead! Make consistent progress rather than trying to leap forward only to end up sliding backwards. Slow down, to speed up, and focus on growth.

Give Your Team Time

leadership management Jul 24, 2019

Today's video is a plea on behalf of your team, particularly on behalf of your new team members. We forget just how challenging it is to start a new role.

Someone coming into our environment has never been in this position before. And still, I watch so many business owners put someone into a new role and just leave them to it - then become frustrated when they don't do things the way they wanted them to!

They then spend so much time afterwards fixing those mistakes, because they didn't set them up to win from the start.

My plea is to GIVE THEM TIME. Invest in them. Educate them. Show them. Spend time on jobs with them. The time you spend training them correctly and well is worth the investment. Our team are our biggest resource, let's give them time up front so they can actually serve us, rather than even more time being spent correcting mistakes.

Management - Be The Referee

leadership management Jun 18, 2019

If you've played sport with an inconsistent or flaky referee, you know how frustrating the game will be.

Today I want to share an anecdote that likens you, as a business owner, to a referee.

In your work environment, controlling the play and having everybody adhere to the same rules makes for a great game for all parties.

We actually like playing within the rules, and the rules being clear.

Be the referee that your team needs!
