Work Life Balance

Work-Life Balance - is a load of bollocks!

I hate the way this phrase is lauded over people and used to make people feel guilty...and in the next breath, I'm a MASSIVE believer that we work to live, NOT live to work!

So how do I manage these seemingly contradictory beliefs?
It's simple... I cheated! I've re-defined what 'Work-Life Balance' looks like :-)

In this video I explain exactly what I mean by that...

You Deserve What You Tolerate

What are you 'tolerating' in your business or in your life right now?
What are the things that you quietly (or loudly) complain about?
          ... and ...
What are YOU doing about them?

If you're not actively doing anything to fix these things, seriously, quit your whinging!!!
If you're not actively doing anything to fix these things, you DESERVE them!!!

I know that sounds harsh, and that was the message that I received loud and clear about a few things going on in my life recently - and it was the message that I needed to hear so that I could get out of my own way to start making changes.

I hope you enjoy this one...

Dealing With Staff Mistakes

How you choose to respond to and deal with mistakes made by your team will have a huge impact on the culture you create, how your business grows, and how much your team wants to support you.

Mistakes can be difficult to swallow - especially when they cost you money.

So, When you make a mistake - how do you react? Usually, we know our intentions were good and it was an honest mistake... so we apologise and then just get on with fixing it But when our team makes mistakes - how do we react to them? (especially given these are out of our control and often cost us directly)

Today let's discuss allowing the same grace we afford ourselves, to our staff.

Attitude Of Gratitude

"What you think about, you bring about!"
I believe your attitude is everything!

It determines how you view and relate to the world around you, which will determine how you chose to move, act and treat others... it also determines how you're viewed by your peers, your employees and the world.

I also believe our brains are exceptionally powerful... we will find the answers to the questions we ask... and if you want to get WAY out there; I believe we are all simply 'energy' vibrating at a certain frequency, I believe all things are connected and I believe like attracts like.

I've had way too many 'synchronous' experiences to ignore this...

Choose your thoughts very deliberately! Adopt an attitude of sincere and genuine gratitude - and watch your entire world change.

Give Your Team Time

leadership management Jul 24, 2019

Today's video is a plea on behalf of your team, particularly on behalf of your new team members. We forget just how challenging it is to start a new role.

Someone coming into our environment has never been in this position before. And still, I watch so many business owners put someone into a new role and just leave them to it - then become frustrated when they don't do things the way they wanted them to!

They then spend so much time afterwards fixing those mistakes, because they didn't set them up to win from the start.

My plea is to GIVE THEM TIME. Invest in them. Educate them. Show them. Spend time on jobs with them. The time you spend training them correctly and well is worth the investment. Our team are our biggest resource, let's give them time up front so they can actually serve us, rather than even more time being spent correcting mistakes.

Your Mental Posture as a Business Owner

leadership Jul 19, 2019

Posture - your mental posture as a business owner - comes up a lot!

How do you command a reasonable price or value for your work?
How do you maintain control, so you're not at the whim / mercy of your clients?

Most people adjust their posture over time, borne out of the frustration / realisation that they have allowed themselves to be bullied. It doesn't have to be that way!

'Faking it until you make it' is really the motto here. It will certainly feel like that in the beginning. We have a few tips to help you maintain your posture and, ultimately, be in control.

Management - Be The Referee

leadership management Jun 18, 2019

If you've played sport with an inconsistent or flaky referee, you know how frustrating the game will be.

Today I want to share an anecdote that likens you, as a business owner, to a referee.

In your work environment, controlling the play and having everybody adhere to the same rules makes for a great game for all parties.

We actually like playing within the rules, and the rules being clear.

Be the referee that your team needs!

The Ride of Our Lives – For Good

growth leadership May 29, 2019

On April 21st 2019, Jo and I rode into the 'The New Life Project' home in Kanchanaburi and met the kids we fundraised for...  and the best way I can sum up the whole experience is 'Life Changing'!

Jo and I were part of a group of 65 riders that had spent the last 5 days biking 500km across Thailand in 42-46 degree heat -- it had been seriously challenging -- and it was all instantly forgotten the moment we saw the children's faces

My little guy (Ice) barely said a word - but our connection was instant. He was obviously a staunch little dude with his mates but then he was also one of the cutest, cuddliest and most incredibly affectionate kids I've ever hugged. He didn't care what his mates thought as he climbed into my lap or clung on for cuddles and I felt so much appreciation and love from this tiny little 8-year-old that it completely melted my heart.

Like most of the children in the home, Ice’s backstory is pretty hard to read… His mother had AIDS and a...
